Let’s Find Your Passion & Your Purpose

I’ll be honest.  I never planned this post.  I didn’t think before I pressed “broadcast.”  I didn’t obsess over how I would look or what people would think or what the spammers would say.  You know why?

Because it didn’t matter.

Six years ago, I read a book that changed my life.  It posed a simple question: if time and money were no object, what would you do with your life?  The question was easy enough, but the answer?  Now THAT was the problem.

If you’re like me, you probably struggled (or are struggling) to find your passion & your purpose.

This confusion leads to lack of direction, frustration, narcissism, and struggles that, without a clear purpose, are difficult to withstand.  Believe me, sweet sparkle, I know how you’re feeling.  If I’m being brutally honest, I’ve been fighting feelings of insecurity, self-doubt, and jealousy over the past few months.  Am I good enough?  Am I giving enough?  Am I knowledgeable enough?  Am I professional enough?  Am I making enough?

…. am I enough?

Do you see the problem with all of those questions?  It’s me.  I’m the problem.  And I have a feeling it’s you.  You’re the problem too.  You and I are the reason you don’t know your passion & your purpose.

You see, when we are so focused on OUR pain and OUR struggles and OUR story… we forget that play an important role in the lives of people; well beyond the walls of our own selfish little hearts.  When we’re living for just ourselves, things can get pretty lonely.  And that’s exactly where I’ve been (and I know some of you are there too); so focused on my struggles, that I was completely unable to see outside my own little ball of frustration.

But then?  Something changed.  Through a series of conversations, devotionals, and self-reflection I found myself again.  I found my passion and my purpose.  And the coolest part?  It had nothing to do with me.

And everything to do with you.

Let’s get back to that book about your passion & your purpose, shall we?

After reading the book and working through a series of questions, I found my purpose.  While initially saying I’d “start a non-profit of some kind for children,” I very quickly realized that was the shallow answer of someone who didn’t know her passion and her purpose.  Don’t get me wrong, non-profits and charities that support children are amazing!!!!  But my answer wasn’t fueled by passion.  It was fueled by the desire to please other people and give the “right answer.”

You know what does fuel me?  It’s YOU.

You see, I believe I’ve been put on this earth to love on people, make them feel welcomed, and to build community.  That’s my passion and that’s my purpose.  And, dare I say it, that’s the holy calling that I believe has been placed on my life.  What’s even cooler about this (and let’s be honest, the only reason I’m writing this post) is that I’m not the only one.  Your passion & your purpose are just waiting to be discovered!  You have a calling on your life and a purpose for which you were created!  Believer or not.  Church-goer or not.

You need to know that YOU MATTER MORE THAN YOU THINK!

And that was the big realization for me this week.  In the midst of fighting my own battles and insecurities, I had forgotten about you.  It’s the ugly raw imperfect truth.  I was so consumed with my actions and my mistakes and my shortcomings that I couldn’t see the bigger picture.  And, in the midst of all that, I was rendered far less effective and far less powerful.

I don’t know about you.  But that’s not the life I want to live.  I want to live in victory.

It took a few hard conversations by some women who are close to me, but I saw it.  I finally saw it.  I was living for my own selfish ambition instead of living for my calling, my purpose, and my passion.  The moment I realized it all was the moment the weight was lifted off my shoulders.

And, because I’m determined to help you find your passion & your purpose, we’re here right now.  Together.
