You’ve got that photography biz or MLM side hustle up and running and you’re ready to start your OWN Facebook group to keep your customers in the know.
I’m super proud of you! But with Facebook groups, the name’s the thing! So let’s dig in to how to name your Facebook group.
First things first, there’s not necessarily a “right” or a “wrong” way when it comes to how to name your Facebook group. Buuut, there is definitely “good, better, best.” After all, you want people to be able to find and identify with your group, right? RIGHT! Yet at the end of the day, your Facebook group’s perfect name will be a blend of best practices + your unique brand. So let’s dive on in to how those things work together. Here are three main things to consider when it comes to your Facebook group’s perfect name.
1. Your group name should reflect your “bumper sticker”
This is probably the most important thing…. annnnnnnnd the one that everyone forgets about. So listen up.
I know you’re all “Hold up, Cyrissa, my Facebook group is NOT A CAR!” Yes, you are correct, but it still needs a bumper sticker! Bear with me, here. When you see a car with a catchy bumper sticker on it’s rump, you know you’re driving up as close as you can to see what it says! A car’s bumper sticker clearly advertises something about the DRIVER, not the car.
And these days, stickers are popping up on more than just cars! We’re seeing them on laptop cases, Hydroflasks, ski helmets, and a million other places. Companies are making stickers and sending them to their loyal clients as a way to expand knowledge about their brand.
Your group name will be the “sticker” that says something about not only YOU, but anyone who joins!
My brilliant friend, Rachel Miller {you should totally join her FB group} was the first one to clue me into this strategy and I’ve found it to be highly effective when naming my own groups! She goes way more in-depth in her workshops, but a high-level view of bumper stickers is definitely enough to get you started!
For example, my MONAT group is called “Sparkle Society {Confident + Beautiful}” and it’s where I share about products that help moms feel… confident and beautiful! My group members aren’t ashamed to be associated with that bumper sticker, but if my group was called “40ish moms who don’t feel so confident anymore and want to get their groove back,” that wouldn’t be the case! Your group name = your bumper sticker, so make it one you and your members are proud to wear on their hineys!
2. Make your Facebook group name memorable
A cute Facebook group name is awesome, but not if no one can remember it! Think long and hard about how easily your Facebook group name is going to transfer from a conversation you have with someone to their memory when they go to look it up later. If you have a business already, you might want to weave it in to your Facebook group name like I did. People associate me with Sparkle Society already, so having them remember that my group name also includes Sparkle Society is not a big stretch.
Now, if you’re using a Facebook group to reach more customers for your MLM, make sure and check with your company’s terms and conditions. Most won’t allow you to include the company name in your Facebook group and that’s actually a good thing – because you will have decline reach if you do, in most cases. {That’s why my Monat group name does NOT include the word “Monat”!}
3. Your group name must be searchable
This last key to how to name your Facebook group is a big one: you gotta make it searchable, baby! Have you ever noticed that my photography business does NOT include my name? That’s because I’ve got an unusual name… which I LOVE, by the way! But as you guys can see from the many instas of my Starbucks cups, ain’t nobody know how to SPELL IT. “Cyrissa” is just. not. searchable {though it may be memorable, yasss girl!}.
When someone is trying to recall your Facebook group name, you want to make it something that they can easily type in and Facebook can auto-populate lickety split. “Sparkle Society” will quickly populate with the “Confident + Beautiful” on the end of it, allowing folks to jump on in to my group. The many failed spellings of my name, however? NOT SO MUCH!
Now that you’ve got that Facebook group name under control, let’s take your hustle to the next level!
This stuff works. How do I know? Because a few years ago, I was just like you. But was able to grow a six-figure photography company {right in the heart of the midwest} and have been rocking an MLM side-hustle for just over a year {and earned myself a free Cadillac}. The secret to my success? Well, a LOT of it has to do with how I use social media.
